Today Leimert Park native Dom Kennedy released his highly anticipated Yellow Album today, which you can download for free on his website here. Channeling the west-coast mid-90’s on the album cover complete with Penny Hardaway jersey, Stussy hat and rose gold rolex, the 90’s aesthetics continue throughout the entire release that pays tribute to the era as well as taking the sound into the future. Hip hop nerds will appreciate certain lines and rhyme patterns paying homage to classic tracks too, I’m not giving up no inside information though, I’ll let Rap Genius do that.

Dude’s got bars for days about cars too so you know I’m always loving that, 5.0 Mustangs and Alpina BMWs get a shout out among other models, a refreshing change from the “six-fo” and caddy references stale west-coast rappers often referring to. All in all it’s a great release, perfect timing for summer in the top half of the world but down here it doesn’t feel quite right listening to it under two jackets while watching the rain.
