Lower Spectrum is Ned Beckley, a former Melbourne resident who made his escape to the sanctuary of Perth. I actually had a few different people send me Lower Spectrum tracks, dissociated from bias and the formalities of press releases – just purely vibing. Listen below and vibe for yourself. Also, be sure to check out the freshly released Traces EP that ‘Khlever’ features on.

EAVESDROPPING ON LOWER SPECTRUM

Who are you?

Lower Spectrum.

Where are you from?

Fremantle, Perth.

What is unique about your local music scene?

Lots of hidden talent. It doesn’t follow trends and is fiercely independent.

Describe your sound in three words. Go!

Raw, honest and deep.

What makes you unique as an artist?

Interesting arrangements, original sound and always hungry.

Have you heard any new music lately? Got any recommendations?

Kirkis, Rioux, Rafael Anton Irisarri and Dirg Gerner.

Tell us a little about this release.

It’s the single from my EP Traces on Zero Through Nine. It projects rising orchestral swells, absorbing melody lines built around layers of deep pulsating rhythms and warm analog colours.

What inspired the artwork for this track?

My friend David Rusanow was recently traveling through the amazing mountains of Iceland and shot this.

What’s the story behind the video?

He has also shot a film clip for this song in Iceland. It follows a group of unruly pagan kids through a small fishing village and magic shit happens. This will be dropping very soon.

What else are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on a remix for the homies Bad Blocks which is coming out on Brooklyn label Stars & Letters that will drop mid July, as well as concocting a new alias that is strictly under wraps at the moment.

Do you have any shows coming up?

Bigsound in Brisbane from September the 10–12.
