Universal Zulu Nation founder and pioneer of hip-hop and break-beat, DJ Afrika Bambaataa is set to tour Australia and NZ in May, celebrating his 56th birthday and over 35 years in the industry.

ACCLAIM has got three double passes to give away for his Sydney and Melbourne shows. For your chance to win* drop an email comp(at)acclaimmag.com with your name, email and phone number with ‘BAMBAATAA’ in the subject line.

Known as the godfather of hip-hop, Afrika Bambaataa is a DJ from the South Bronx who was instrumental in the development of hip-hop through the 1980s. The man behind hip hop/electro funk classic Planet Rock over the years has co-produced and performed with the likes of James Brown, George Clinton, Leftfield, Jungle Brothers and A Tribe Called Quest and his futuristic soundscapes became a major influence in laying the foundation for breaks, electro, freestyle, techno and house music. An architect of hip-hop, he coined the terms ‘MCing’, ‘DJing’, ‘B-boying’ and ‘graffiti writing’.
