So here’s the story: Epic Records Chairman and CEO L.A. Reid was given unlimited access to the massive cache of unfinished Michael Jackson recordings and given licence to assemble a new album.

Reid enlisted the help of a cadre of producers (including Timbaland, Darkchild and Stargate) to “comtemporise” the tracks for a 2K14 audience. And, yes, that means that track ‘Blue Gangsta’ rummages through the big box of trap-lite snare and hi-hat patterns.

Listen to it here and feel a little humbled that even MJ’s cast-offs and hasty sketches of songs are all pretty damn solid.

(But nobody considered changing the name of the track called ‘Do You Know Where Your Children Are’?)
