‘Pretend’, the second single from Tinashe’s debut solo album is yet another example of the singer’s inherent knack for making friends in high places, despite her humble home studio beginnings. With the first two tracks from Aquarius already featuring the likes of DJ Mustard, ScHoolboy Q, A$AP Rocky and Detail there’s no question that Tinashe, unlike most internet-gen musicians, isn’t afraid of going AFK in the pursuit of a new BFF.

‘Pretend’ is a sparse emotional plea that showcases the singer’s ability to engage listeners without resorting to excessive production or vocal hooks.  The song which tells the all-too-familiar tale of heartbreak and infidelity builds gracefully to its silky-smooth climax: an A$AP Rocky verse delivered by his softer side.  With her latest pop gem set to match the success of its predecessor, I have a feeling Tinashe will never be alone again.

And be sure to take a look at our cover story with Tinashe.
