Rapper Mykki Blanco took to Facebook this week to announce her break from the music industry while she turns her focus to a career in investigative journalism. She plans to travel to Nepal in may with the intent of “particularly focusing on documenting and writing about homosexuality and gay culture in remote corners of the world.”. In the long term, Blanco plans to enroll in a sociology and gender studies program, using her experiences in Nepal as the ground work before re-entering school.

In under 24 hours the news quickly spread through social media, forcing Blanco to head to twitter, defusing any speculation that her hiatus would be forever, following a stream of tweets:
