Selects: Alex Chase – Music To Work To

A Playlist of Rare Soul Records He'd Rather Listen To Than Return Your E-mails

The second in our series of Selects: Music To Work To features Alex Chase, whose small but distinctive label One Handed Music, champions unusual and gifted artists – including Paul White, Bullion and Mo Kolors.

“I often play songs on YouTube that I can’t afford to buy. They’re usually horribly rare soul 45s,” says Alex, of his choice of Selects: Music To Work To. In  Issue 26 the DIY Issue of ACCLAIM he spoke to us about the beginning of One Handed and it’s roster of passionate producers that are both forward thinking and playful enough to release EP’s in pillowcases, it’s no surprise then, that his playlist is made up of soul obscurities and ’90s rap. It also invokes the art of ‘reverse digging’ – that being, where you find elusive records in shops in Germany then listen to them on YouTube  – along with recommendations from his friends, including One Handed’s Paul White, whose track The Doldrums features on the playlist.
