SELECTS: Mark Drew – Music To Work To
'If He’s Still in Australia, Can You Ask KRS What A $5000 Love Seat Is?!'
Posted By Rebecca Florence | 3-Jul-2012In this week’s SELECTS, graphic artist and co-founder of China Heights Gallery, Mark Drew, gives us a playlist of Music To Work To.
While the Japan-based artist usually listens to Onyx’s Slam (‘everyone knows that’s what I listen to all day’), Drew’s playlist pays homage to the hip-hop flavour of his Tuhg Life feature in Issue 26 of ACCLAIM - pages of his zine dedicated to 2pac. Kicking off with the first track that grabbed him as a teen by Public Enemy, to The Pharcyde – ‘I’ve never had a bad day after hearing Soul Flower, I can work on three jobs when it’s playing’ – to KRS ONE, Drew’s all time favourite rapper. If you need a break, Drew recommends to make a cup of tea and hit Return of the Mack, and if you’re working at 3am, Telegram’s version of Bjork’s I Miss You will have you shrugging off tiredness with a cameo by Rodney P (if, Drew says, you need a hood check!)
Stream the playlist on our Mixcloud channel or with the App for your iPhone.
