Legendary East Coast rapper, producer and label owner Jeru the Damaja has been in the industry for over twenty years and is bringing his legendary Brooklyn sound to Australia this week.

First showcasing his talents on 1992’s Gang Starr album Daily Operation and went on to create his first album – The Sun Rises in the East, produced by DJ Premier and now considered one of the best hip-hop albums of it’s time. ACCLAIM catches up with the ‘mild mannered New Yorker’ ahead of his tour for some SMALL TALK.

My name is Jeru The Damaja

By day I… am a mild mannered New Yorker navigating thought the hustle and bustle of the treacherous city.

By night I…. travel the planet saving the hip-hop community from whack rap by picking up the microphone and rocking shows.

My favourite TV show is I don’t watch a lot of television so I would have to say I don’t have one.

The last movie I watched was… Limitless.

The first CD I ever bought was  That was a long time ago, I really can’t remember.

The last was…. I’m not sure – I like vinyl, but the last record I bought was the Foxy Brown soundtrack.

If I wasn’t making music I would probably be… either a lawyer or a criminal.

I’m addicted to…. Superman doesn’t say “hey kryptonite can kill me”.

The best thing about touring is… rocking the mic and starting a new adventure everyday.

The worst thing about touring is… nothing!

When I get to Australia I can’t wait to… ride a kangaroo across the outback.

The last time I was in Australia I… had a blast, I almost stayed an extra week.

When I tour I like tohave as much fun a possible without it getting to dangerous.

The last thing I ate was… a slice of pizza.

My fave youtube vid is… of a little Asian lady flinging  round this big repo guy like he was a ragdoll.

My computer’s wallpaper is Don’t have wallpaper on my computer.
