Nirvana’s initial record contract with Sub Pop was posted via the label’s Tumblr last night.

Now nearly 25 years old, the simple paper contract states the agreement begins on January 1, 1989, and lists the band’s early line-up of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic (then spelled Chris), Chad Channing and Jason Everman.

The best bit is that Sub Pop signed Nirvana for an advance of just six hundred bucks, the label acknowledging this bargain with the caption “six hundred bucks well spent – not that we had it at the time.”

The contract had Nirvana locked in for three albums with the label, but Nirvana would release just one with Sub Pop, 1989’s Bleach, before moving to DGC Records for Nevermind and In Utero. Signing Nirvana still turned out to be one of Sub Pop’s best moves, leaving them years of royalties.

Check out the contract above.
