While the clip itself isn’t quite groundbreaking (as you could tell when we see the wide-shot of the cityscape at night as our first scene), this new visual treatment for Detroit femcee DeJ Loaf’s recent single “On My Own” still seems appropriate. The grey-scale video follows DeJ through the recent whirlwind of her popping career, with cameos from co-signers Nicki Minaj, T.I., Rick Ross, Diddy, Meek Mill, Ty Dolla $ign and perhaps most importantly DJ Khaled (she’s smart, she’s loyal and he appreciates that).

The song reminds us that DeJ didn’t need help with her come-up, but she’s definitely seeing the benefits of working so hard all by her lonesome – we see vision of her live performances interspersed with radio interviews, photoshoots, studio time and DeJ stunting across Miami in a mayonnaise-coloured whip. It’s fun to witness a rising star basically having the time of her life, and that’s perhaps why the lack of creativity in this clip gets a pass – because in this particular case, it’s just plain real.
