DJ Premier has always been at the forefront of what’s sonically hot, whether it’s curating sounds for a party or creating them for your favourite artists over the past 20-plus years. Here, he sits down with Serato, as part of their Serato Icon Artist Series, to let us in on his rise as a DJ/producer and his opinions on the industry’s past and present.

Among the many gems of wisdom in there, Premier speaks on meeting Guru and his subsequent concentration on producing beats, as well as who he rates among today’s hip hop (and other) artists. “I love Drake, because he can actually rap. I like J.Cole, I love Kendrick Lamar. But then I like Disclosure.”
