Meet’n'Greet: Joel Van Der Knaap
Meet new ACCLAIM contributor, Joel Van Der Knaap: illustrator, daydreamer and reppin' over in sunny Adelaide...21-Mar-2012
So we’ve launched our new site and you may be wondering who the hell’s writing for us now. Well, put it this way, we don’t have an office full of monkeys tapping away at typewriters. Although that’d be kinda cool…but probably only funny for a bit and actually kinda annoying and stinky.
Alas, we have a bunch of new contributors, bloggers, writers and all-round nice people who aren’t stinky or annoying, and generously came on board after we begged them to be our friends.
We’ll be posting a new column, Meet’n'Greet where you get to…meet and greet…our new contributors. First up is the super-cool Joel Van Der Knaap aka Joel VDK. You may remember Joel from our Fantasy issue where he kindly illustrated our article on dream interpretation. Or perhaps you remember his illustration from the panther story in our Australia issue. OR if you made your way to the Drop Bear exhibition last year, you might recall seeing his piece there. The point is, Joel VDK’s our friend. You should be friends with him too. He’s real nice.
Take it away, JVDK…
My name is… Joel.
By day I… Draw. Daydream.
By night I… Chill with my beautiful wife (awww). Draw. Watch NBA. Sometimes sleep.
But I’m probably best known for… Drawing!
My favourite TV show is… At the moment Spongebob.
The last movie I watched was… Carnage.
And I thought it was…. Brilliant and funny.
The first CD I ever bought was… Don’t remember. I do remember the first tape I bought though… Michael Jackson’s Bad.
The last was… Does itunes count? Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
I’m addicted to… Cheese. Comics.
The best thing about Adelaide is… The great community in the east end.
The worst thing about Adelaide is… Feels a little small and insular sometimes.
Last weekend I… Took my niece to a show about fairies and wombats. I know, so gangsta.
The last thing I ate was… An apple
My fave youtube vid is (link)… http://youtu.be/srl2Bwh6A3I
My computer’s wallpaper is… Grey. Simple and clean.
What ACCLAIMmag.com readers can expect from me is… Drawings, scribbles, snippets of whatever i’m working on and some insight into what Adelaide crew are up to.
If I achieve one thing in 2012 I want it to be… Focus on the things that matter. Block out the BS.
