Alexander Wang turns adidas upside down for surprise new collection

Is this the best designer sportswear collab of 2016?

Alexander Wang’s collaboration with adidas has just been released, and he’s doing it in style. The 84 unisex pieces that comprise the collection won’t be available at your average retail store just yet… you’ll have to make your way over to New York and catch a pop up truck stopping at various street corners if you want to get your hands on them.

Wang puts an entirely new spin on the iconic sportswear brand for the collaboration, where the famous ‘Originals’ logo is literally turned upside down. In doing so, Wang plays with the meaning of symbols and notions of authenticity:

“With this collection, the idea was to take the codes and iconography of the adidas Originals brand and look at what their symbols mean and turn them on their head, to invert what’s on the surface and add a layer of subversion; also to toy with the idea of what’s authentic and what’s fake, and how a certain setting can change perception entirely.”

The results are casual chic and oh-so-cool. Think shiny black tracksuits, velvety polos and floor length trench coats. It also features black shirts emblazoned with an X-ed out non disclosure agreement at the back.

The campaign is shot by Juergen Teller, and stars the likes of fashion’s new guard of It Kids Rocco Ritchie (of Madonna and Guy fame), Hanne Gaby Odiele, Binx Walton, and Lexi Boling.

Don’t stress if you can’t make it over to New York though, the collection will be able for purchase globally at Alexander wang stores, adidas Originals stores, select retailers and online from Spring 2017. Patience is a virtue.
