Rafael De Cárdenas, the New York based architect responsible for Architectureatlarge.com has created his own pattern for the Rivieras Leisure shoe, which will soon be available in four different colourways. The collaboration was introduced by The New York Times style mag T Magazine where the architect, who had his start in painting and fashion, explained why he collaborated on the shoe:

“I like their form and shape as well as their nod to the ’60s and ’70s French Riviera summer culture,” he said. “I also like that they are called a ‘leisure shoe,’ almost as though wearing them might relax you regardless of whether you’re leisurely or not.”

Indeed, the Leisure shoe is known for being worn on Spain’s Costa Blanco in the years following WW2. Rivieras has faithfully kept its 50’s look, and now advertise it as a shoe to be worn ‘in the city, on the seaside, on deck, in sun or shade, night or day.’

Keep an eye out for the collaboration at Opening Ceremony.
