Robert Stevens, 58, spent 20 days at large after breaking out of minimum security Leyhill prison in Gloucestershire, having grown tired of loud music from the likes of Eminem, Jay Z and Kanye West being played day and night in his wing. Stevens, who had been serving a six-and-a-half year sentence for commercial robbery since 2012 scaled a security wall walking several miles to the nearest town.

A reportedly apologetic Stevens was apprehended at a betting shop in Dorset on March 29. Stevens, whose criminal record spans some 21 convictions over four decades, further complained of being relentlessly harassed to buy drugs from younger inmates, an internal culture which has seen the escape of other inmates from the same prison in recent years.

While anyone who has been stuck on a train next to someone their headphones up too loud might be able to empathise with Stevens, sentencing judge Roger Jarvis described the escape as “impulsive and opportunistic,” adding 10 months to his sentence.
