Nike and Leo Chang, Footwear Design Director for Nike Basketball, have taken cues and inspiration from basketballer Kevin Durant’s life and upbringing to model their latest release, the Nike Zoom KD V. As did the KD IV, the KD V also comes with a story. The sneakers revolve around the number five. Five being the number of players a team has on a basketball court, the number of sides on the nation’s pentagon, the number of points on a star and Durant’s number thirty-five jersey. The names of Durant’s grandmother, parents, and brother, all literal representations of Durant’s support structure, also feature in the construction of the shoe. Signs of Durant’s childhood mentor, Big Chucky, and his hometown of Seat Pleasant, MD also make an appearance.

Aside from the sentimental value, the final product consists of a Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot, a Nike Air unit in the heel and a unibody Hyperfuse upper construction for superior fit.

The Nike Zoom KD V is now available at select basketball retailers and Nikestore.com.
