Missoni and Pigalle team up for capsule collection

The trend of luxury meets sportswear continues

Posted by

Luxury and sportswear used to be separate worlds. Today, these worlds blend into one. We’re just as likely to see trainers on a Chanel runway, as we are to see ruffles, lace, and embroidery on clothes by Puma. As a result, more and more sportswear brands continue to score collaborations with their high-fashion counterparts. Recently, we’ve seen Louis Vuitton join forces with Supreme, Alexander Wang hook up with adidas, and then there’s Vetements and their dalliances with Champion, Reebok and every other brand under the sun.  These recent partnerships have set the scene for possibly the most eye-catching union yet, Pigalle’s capsule collection with Missoni.

The collection fuses Pigalle’s aptitude for athletic apparel with Missoni’s heritage in vibrant knitwear – all refined through a sophisticated, Parisian vision shared by both brands’ creative heads, Stéphane Ashpool and Angela Missoni. The resulting collection is a kaleidoscopic party for the retinas, including patterns Missoni has mined from their archives dating back to 1985. Such designs have then been applied to iconic Pigalle pieces in tessellating patchworks. The clothes aren’t necessarily the kind you’d see at the gym anytime soon, but their adherence to traditional sportswear silhouettes are clear, making them highly wearable and, of course, desirable.

Luxury-meets-street collaborations have undoubtedly become a trend we’ll see much more of, but this one, it seems, is definitely a loud statement to remember.
