Opening Ceremony’s very literal take on their ‘Year in China’ range of Vans

Mandarin gown-inspired silk silhouette footwear for the masses

Posted by

Opening Ceremony’s “2016: The Year in China” series has been shining a spotlight on Chinese designers, and their latest addition has taken us to the next oriental level. They’ve teamed up with Vans Vault to create the “Opening Ceremony x Vans Vault Classic Slip-On LX ‘Qi Pao'” collection, available in black, pink, and red. Launched as part of their new Club USA, the new OG Classic Slip-On LX kicks feature a Chinese silk brocade fabric.

But what does Qi Pao mean? We’ll let them explain.

“Qi Pao, also known as cheongsam or Mandarin gown,” according to Opening Ceremony, “is a form-fitting silk dress that first appeared in Shanghai during the 1920s and was popularised by socialites and upperclass women alike.”

It’s essentially channeling the aesthetic of 2000’s In The Mood For Love.

Our oriental dreams have come true. Head on over to openingceremony.com to shop these exclusive kicks, available in black, pink, and red. To keep up-to-date with Opening Ceremony‘s ongoing Chinese-inspired collection, take a look at their blog here.
