Master recordings from 1998–2002 have been snatched up by the police after they were allegedly found in the possession of producer Chancey Mahan.

The tapes – valued between $15 and $20 million – went missing around 2002 when Mahan was last working with Jay and apparently he contacted Live Nation asking for a $100,000 ‘storage fee’ and eventually settled for $75,000.

It seems like Jay’s people pulled off a sting on Mahan, as when he went to the storage facility to hand over the tapes and pick up the loot he was met with the LAPD, whom Roc had contacted before hand. It’s been reported that The Roc also hit Mahan with a grand larceny charge and Jay stayed true to his claim in ‘Success’ that he’s “way too important to be talking about extorting.”
