We need to talk about Maico Akiba. Whilst the illustrator, sculptor, artist of many trades spends a chunk of her time illustrating children’s books, it’s her ongoing project ‘100 Years Later‘ that’s really caught our attention. The concept is simple; imagining what everyday items may look like in 100 years time. She meticulously manipulates everyday objects by painting them with coats of “ageing paint”, dirt, moss, and rust. They have a deeply realistic and somewhat apocalyptic feel. Well worth viewing!
