Jean-Michel Basquiat is perhaps the most celebrated downtrodden artist to come out of the early ’80s gritty downtown NYC scene and, true to form, his resumé gives a big “fuck you” to convention. The handwritten spidery text, lazily explaining his artistic achievements, looks more like an art piece than a professional document. The ‘education’ title has been purposefully misspelled, crossed out, and then re-written below alongside the word ‘NIL’. Experience has also been scribbled out and Employment has been thoroughly covered up with a rubber stamp and ink.

Written in his rebellious 20s, the CV contains flippant references to luminaries such as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Tennessee Williams.

The resumé has proved its post-modern worth at a Sotheby’s auction in the UK at selling for 32,000 quid which equates to about 50,000 USD.
