Pop sculptor, Desire Obtain Cherish (DOC) latest conceptual work explores the notion that ideas win today in our society. And that these ideas are highly concerned with fame, money and luxury. Inspired by the works of Jeff Koons and Andy Warhol, his collection combines street, pop and appropriation to explore what he believes are society’s obsessions – sex, drugs, commerce, media and fame. “The commercial promise of fulfilment and happiness that ends in dependency”, he describes. Critical, sarcastic, frightfully true and well-executed. Or as New Yorker art critic, Benjamin Genocchio put it, our uncomfortable truths are presented “wrapped in the most beautiful and seductive of packages”. Dudes got a point!
