Ian Strange returns with his most recent installation Landed, commissioned as a part of the 2014 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Dark Heart. The sculptural work by Strange takes form as a 1920’s Australian suburban home, which appears to have quite literally ‘landed’ in the forecourt of the Art Gallery of South Australia.

The completely black structure is impossible to miss as it lies embedded in the ground, drawing a strong comparison to The Wizard of Oz, Strange’s way of commenting on the sudden onset of western culture in Australia. The house, while a replica of Strange’s childhood home, is reminiscent of a typical Australian suburban house built within the 1900s and acts as a contrast to the neo-classical architecture of the museum.

Landed is open now until May 11th, as part of the 2014 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art:Dark Heart, at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
