Celebrated director Wes Craven who’s known for seminal horror films that include A Nightmare on Elm Street and the Scream franchise has died at the age of 76. Craven passed away in his LA home as a result of brain cancer.
Making his film debut in 1972 with The Last House on the Left, Craven has been inextricably linked with the horror genre for more than four decades. His films established many of the tropes and motifs that would become a stable of the ‘slasher’ film genre, a fact that he acknowledged and subverted in his highly regarded Scream series of films.
I’m sure there are many of Generation Y who have fond memories of the exhilarating terror of being scared senseless by Craven’s films during their childhoods. Rest in peace.
