After a decade in the business, Haroshi‘s latest creation Virtual Reality sees the artist’s staple style of working with used decks to create laminated skateboard sculptures once again attest to his unique skill set. Using a combination of woodwork tools and traditional Japanese craft implements, the Tokyo based artist manages to capture that effortless facade of skateboarding. The consistent incorporation of human elements in his work is intended to project a message about the ephemeron – “Humans die, skateboards break—skulls and bones are the remains of human beings that get left behind just like broken skateboards,” says Haroshi. The Virtual Reality exhibition is on display now at the Jonathan Levine Gallery.
