Ever found yourself wondering what the internal anatomy of a bear looks like?  Well wonder no more. Artist and sculptor Deborah Simons has put those pondering thoughts to rest with her newest project, Flayed Bears. The project features three life sized sculptures made from a combination of clay, faux fur and wire that replicate the anatomy of the animals through embroidered coats. The collection includes a black bear exposing its spinal cord and nervous system, a polar bear and its circulatory system and a grizzly bearing (best pun ever) its digestive system.

The sculptures are slightly confronting yet intriguing and actually quite ornamental, yet the message behind the project has a little more to it than just shock value. Simons stated that she wanted to reveal the vulnerability of these animals, who are so often poached and seen as a prized possession for hunters.
