There are some people in this world who refuse to let unfortunate circumstances stop them from achieving incredible things. Kelvin Doe is one of those people. At 15 years young, he’s a self-taught engineering prodigy from Sierra Leone, Africa, and the youngest person ever to be invited to MIT’s Visiting Practitioner’s Program for international development. Rummaging through the garbage, Kelvin finds bits and pieces of old electronic equipment and uses them to build everything from generators to radio transmitters. He possesses a passion for designing solutions to the complex problems that affect his local and global community, like a lack of electricity and a lack of public media facilities, and it’s truly inspiring. His pure sense of motivation, innovation, and hope is incredibly moving and I definitely had a pool of tears welling up by the end of the video. To help support and encourage innovation from other gifted young people just like Kelvin, head here to learn more and make a donation.
