It’s been 30 years since the smash hit Ghostbusters first hit our screens, and while most of us that remember the movie’s original 1984 release are probably a little too old to be playing with LEGO, many fans will no doubt still be really excited about the news of this new LEGO set.

To commemorate the milestone anniversary of Ivan Reitman’s comedy blockbuster starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis and Ernie Hudson, LEGO CUUSOO consumer inspiration platform, the online design platform that lets consumers create their own models, are releasing the sixth user-designed and submitted product to be manufactured.

After receiving the requisite 10,000 fan votes to be considered for production, the Danish toy company decided release the set. Australian fan and 3-D Environment Artist in the video game industry from Brisbane, Brett Waller  designed the original model, which he called the “Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Concept.” Company policy is that consumers whose LEGO CUUSOO designs are produced earn 1% of the total net sales of the product – which in this case may be a quite a bit.

The Ghostbusters ECTO-1 set joins the NASA Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover, the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future, LEGO Minecraft Microworld, Hayabusa asteroid explorer and the Shinkai 6500 submarine as the user-generated models that have attained production status.
