Apple is facing a $5 million class-action lawsuit over iOS 9 update

It is alleged that the update forced iPhone 4s users to buy newer models by slowing down their phones

Apple is being struck with a $5 million lawsuit after iPhone 4s users claimed that the recent update slowed down their handsets so much that they became “inoperable”. Users say claim they were informed prior to downloading that the update would be compatible with their 4s models, which later proved to be untrue as phones began to freeze, crash and delay. Some of the class members were forced to buy a new phone due to the performance issues, as it is not possible to reverse the update once it has been administered.

“The update significantly slowed down their iPhones and interfered with the normal usage of the device, leaving Plaintiff with a difficult choice: use a slow and buggy device that disrupts everyday life or spend hundreds of dollars to buy a new phone,”the lawsuit cites. “Apple explicitly represented to the public that iOS 9 is compatible with and supports the iPhone 4s. And Apple failed to warn iPhone 4s owners that the update may or will interfere with the device’s performance.”
