You might remember Bret Easton Ellis writing Kanye‘s American Psycho spoof as a promo for Yeezus and then Kanye re-cutting and scoring the trailer for Ellis’ film The Canyons. Since then the two have been getting quite buddy-buddy with Ellis talking of writing a script for their “future film project”, and now Kanye has guested on Ellis’ debut podcast because well, that’s the only way you can get any one to pay attention to podcasts.

During the yarn the two speak about movies, being dedicated to super-awesomeness, comparing 12 Years A Slave to ‘New Slaves’ and having a friend called Digital Thug. It’s mostly bout movies though. Bret does a lot philosophising that can make listening to the whole thing a bit dry so I’ve compiled the best Kanye-isms to save you some time.

On looking fly:

“The skill set required to dress nice is too high… You have to almost be a scholar of clothing to be a well-dressed person.”

On being Benjamin Button:

“When I made Graduation, I was six years old. When I made 808s, I jumped to five years old. Then the Taylor Swift thing happened, and I had to grow back up. I almost reached ten years old when I did Dark Fantasy! Then I did Cruel Summer and Watch The Throne, I was about 8. Then, when I did Yeezus, I kinda got back to under five, like four-and-a-half. And now, I’m mentally, completely, three years old. By the time I’m 50, I’m gonna be one. And by the time I’m dead, I’m gonna be zero.”

On Yeezus:

“Some people who really enjoyed the fact that it was a sonic jump, and some people didn’t enjoy the fact that it was less enjoyable than music I’ve made in the past.”

On Breaking Bad:

“Literally, me and my girl sat up in a hotel room, and we had some days off, and we said, ‘Look, let’s just go ahead and watch this so we can be, like, normal human beings.”

On literacy not being required to be a genius:

“…if I were to write my title, like when you’re going through the airport and you have to put down what you do, I would literally write “Creative Genius”, except for two reasons: sometimes it takes too long to write that, and sometimes I spell the word ‘genius’ wrong.”
