Last week we posted about a proposed Metro and Yarra Trams industrial action that would mean trains and trams would not run between the hours of 10am to 2pm this Friday (August 21st). But it looks like you might not have to get on your bike after all.

Metro Trains and the Rail, Tram and Bus union have decided to resume talks at 9am tomorrow in order to reach a conclusion about pay rate increases over the next three years. The resumption of the talks has been described by Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allen as ‘a significant step forward’, with the unions now not able to schedule industrial action until a later date.

Yarra Trams also have a hearing scheduled with Fair Work Australia tomorrow, however the tram stoppages for Friday still appear to be on the cards.

Despite this, the free travel proposed by the RTBU has also been scrapped for Wednesday August 19 and Friday August 21. Travel on these days will be paid as normal “and customers should touch on and touch off as they usually do”.
