Resident Evil 2 is the most critically acclaimed game of the Resident Evil series, and beloved by fans, known for its dark cinematic nature the game is still considered to be a classic in the survival horror genre. Fans have reacted enthusiastically to the announcement from Capcom, posting the news across social media and debating about which features should and shouldn’t be included in the new version.

According to reports the new Resident Evil 2 will be an entire remake, unlike the HD remake of Resident Evil and the HD version of Resident evil 0, which is set for release in 2016.

The remake will be lead by producer ‘H’, aka Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, who has worked on the Resident Evil franchise since its beginning in 1996. He revealed the remake in a video posted to Youtube (you can watch it above), explaining that after pitching the project his team have finally received approval from Capcom.

The original game was released in 1998 on PlayStation, GameCube, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast and PC, it currently scores a 89 out of 100 on Metacritic.

Currently the Resident Evil 2 remake has no set release date.
