Do you ever feel a sense of euphoria when devouring some brie? Well, researchers from the University of Michigan have found that cheese contains a chemical, called casein, that can be found in some addictive drugs. The chemical, which is found in all dairy products, triggers the brain’s opioid receptors, which produces a feeling of euphoria linked to those of hard drug addiction. While milk only contains minuscule levels of casein, the chemical’s effects are heightened when in concentrated forms of dairy… like that camembert wheel you demolished last night. This is also probably why pizza was the number one food craving of the 500 students surveyed as part of the study, and will also explain your inability to stop at just one tasting of whatever anyone puts on any cheese board.
