The internet has been given it’s first look at the upcoming film adaptation of popular video game Assassin’s Creed, with a promotional image released of leading man Michael Fassbender decked out in chain-mail attire, and generally looking pretty badass. The film’s lead character – whose name we know will be Callum Lynch – will be played by Fassbender, and has been created especially for the film. The movie won’t be rehashing any old stories from the much-loved game, instead creating new characters and situations within the existing world.

The basic plot goes a little something like this: Fassbender’s Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society after tapping into a series memories that allow him to experience the adventures of his ancestor Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. As he returns to present day, he uses the  important knowledge and skills that he has learnt to help him as he takes on the oppressive Knights Templar.

A list of co-stars for Fassbender have also been named, including  oscar-winner Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael Kenneth Williams (12 Years a Slave) and Ariane Labed (Before Midnight).

The film isn’t set to be released until December 2016 though, so eager fans will have to wait a little while before getting to see Fassbender in chain-mail on the big screen.
