2014 is well over, but people still feel the need to analyse the year before they move onto accepting that 2015 has actually started — which could be something to do with avoiding their New Year’s resolutions. Amongst the many lists that attempt to categorise 2014 into a social media/pop culture trend, there is the Global Language Monitor‘s annual survey of the English language. English is a stretch though — the top word for 2014 was actually the Heart emoji. I’m a little bitter about the outcome of the survey, because clearly Prayer Hands emoji is the best one, but I suppose all the teeny-boppers tweeting 140 character love letters to Harry Styles could have (read: definitely) thrown the survey.
Amongst the Heart emoji, the other top words included hashtag, vape, nano and blood moon. #Trend as.
