Anyone who’s heard of The Mighty Mongrel Mob knows that if you see red and black patches on the back of a bomber, stretched across the back of a Hagrid-esk torso, it’s time to look the other way.

The Mongrel Mob have been wreaking havoc in New Zealand since the late sixties, with ties to drug trafficking, prostitution and violence, not to mention plenty of public feuds with rival gangs, most notably, Black Power.

Documentary maker, Tom Gould, has just released an exclusive short piece on the mob with Dazed Magazine. ‘Skin’ offers a glimpse into the life of one of the gang’s founders, Martyka Brandt, or Mad Marty 13. The powerful eight-minute piece follows his journey from a tumultuous upbringing in Christchurch, to gang life and coming up the ranks as Pākehā in a Māori dominated organisation.

‘Skin’ will send chills down your spine and make your eyes water, prepare yourself for the eight most intense minutes of your day.
