Orange is the New Black writer Lauren Morelli has left her husband for Samira Wiley, the actor who plays Poussey on the show, gifting bloggers all over the world with a story that seems too headline-worthy to be true. Two months ago in a revealing essay Lauren wrote this:
“I was so deep in my own self-doubt that I constantly felt like a fraud. I was sure it was bleeding into my writing. How could it not? I was married to a man, but I wasn’t straight.”
She also went on to detail the larger-than-life realities of writing her own predicament into the series and seeing it played out on TV. TMZ reports that Lauren’s husband of two years Steve Basilone has been a true gentleman about the split, even letting Lauren take the Lexus while he’s stuck with the Mazda hatchback. Let’s hope that no new plot twists affect her relationship with actor Samira Wiley – they really do make an endearing couple.
