Word Art. Remember how school projects just weren’t cool without it? Well Microsoft Word’s text decorating tool has been revived recently, via Tumblr of course. Bands in Word Art takes the names of popular music acts and applies colour, font and shape to their titles.

I thought there was some sort of thematic link with the bands here – yeah, I think Tame Impala would like the colour orange. James Blake seems like a chill dude, and green marble seems to reflect this. But Green Day in rainbow gradient Arial really threw me. Surely they’d be more of an black marble Impact with red shadow? Or maybe there’s some sort of chaotic beauty in the random application of colour and font to words that already have a strong image linked to them.

Check out some of the examples above, or head to Bands in Word Art to see the whole lot.
