Melbourne’s trains are not ordinarily spared of strange characters, weirdos and everything in between. In a way, I actually appreciate their presence as they can often turn a usually boring and uneventful train trip into somewhat of a spectacle. What’s pretty unusual though (and actually downright fucking creepy) is spotting a man in a suit and clown mask walking up and down the aisles of a train, staring at passengers all the way to Southern Cross station.

That’s just what the passengers on the Ballarat line had the pleasure of witnessing this morning. A shaken ABC Radio listener going by the name of Karen (probably a fake name in fear of retribution from the train clown) described the events for us. “He didn’t say anything, just moved very slowly. It was like being in a horror movie to be honest… I was going through many scenarios in my head, what if he pulls out a gun?”

It seems that these days many people do not share the shame enjoyment in the finer things in life that my friends and I do. Luckily V/Line seems to have a totally different perspective on the matter – the clown “appeared to be minding his own business” according to the Communications Manager Colin Tyrus. Stay chill, V/Line.

If you’re keen to have a listen to ‘Karen’s’ interview with ABC radio, it’s in the gallery above. Right behind all those creepy clown pics.
