Remember the first time you were at a party and saw someone casually sipping a can of Duff? Remember then trying to convince yourself that your lame non-cartoon beverage wasn’t spiked with LSD? Remember realising that the can of Duff was actually real and crying tears of happiness? Well you’re going to be crying tears of something else after you read this next part…

Duff beer is soon to be off the market, thanks to a ruling made by an Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code Panel. The reason given is this:

“The association of The Simpsons with the product name and packaging is so strongly entrenched in Australian popular culture that the name and packaging will draw the attention of under 18 year olds. Measures to market the product without references to The Simpsons characters or images cannot be effective to overcome the strong and evident appeal of the product material to underage persons.”

Nice one guys. No seriously, nice one. If there’s any chance that pulling Duff from the shelves might help Australian youth lose their beer-ginity later in life I’m all for it. Besides, the beer is a bit of a gimmick – the nostalgia-factor is definitely starting to wear off.

To be fair though, pretty much every time Homer gets wasted he is forced to face some harsh (yet hilarious) consequence.

In the meantime, you will be able to pick up Duff at any bottle shop still selling off existing stock, but, after that, it’s all over.
