ogooglebar, Swedish street talk for ‘ungoogleable’ has faced some major hating from Google recently.

The Swedish Language Council has defined the word as something ‘that cannot be found on the Web with a search engine’ but Google has thrown a tantrum, requesting that the definition of the word refer to Google searches specifically, as well as requesting the Council cite that Google is a registered trademark – hello overzealous buzz kills.

The Swedish Language Council was clearly unimpressed with Google’s pernickety requests and has simply deleted the word from their annual list of new words. They say ‘language development’, Google says ‘brand infringement’ and no one is meant to be saying ogooglebar.

This hot list is supposed to be an entertaining, water cooler type conversation subject in Sweden and is far from an official legal document, therefore Google’s stance on this one has people on the street furrowing their brow at Google’s lack of spirit.
