One of the most hotly anticipated menu changes in the history of fast-food dining – the introduction of all-day breakfast at McDonald’s – has left some store owners, frankly, less-than-lovin’ it. A survey of 29 operators overseeing 226 different locations in the US has found that many franchisees thought the new menu options were causing slowed-down service, lowered average bills, and general chaos within their kitchens.

“In small stores, the problems are vast with people falling over each other and equipment jammed in everywhere,” wrote one franchisee on the survey.

“Customers are abandoning us in droves because we are either too slow, or sub-par quality,” another said.

The new menu options – which in Australia are only currently available at participating Maccas outlets in South Australia, the Gold Coast, and Wollongong – were eagerly campaigned for by breakfast-lovers and those looking for a salty hangover cure at any time of day.

Despite McDonald’s Australia not yet committing to a national rollout, it’s seems the breakfast initiative might be having better luck here than in the States, with a spokesperson saying ““Trials so far are going well here (in Australia) and feedback has been positive.”

If you need reminding of just how much of a big deal all day breakfasts should be, have a re-watch of the classic scene in Adam Sandler flick Big Daddy because we all know that feeling a little too well.
