Breaking Bad fans rejoice once again, as a teaser for the upcoming spin-off series Better Call Saul reveals a February 2015 release date. Though the series was originally meant to premiere in November, Vince Gilligan blames himself for the delay, “We could have made the deadline, but I am slow as mud,” he said. “I still feel I’m very slow for television.”

The short 10 second teaser shows Bob Odenkirk, who plays Saul, explaining the importance of having a lawyer, “Lawyers: we’re like health insurance. You hope you never need it, but man oh man, not having it? No, phew.” The short clip reminds us that Saul is still TV’s greatest salesman (I need not remind you of this gem: “If you’re committed enough, you can make any story work. I once told a woman I was Kevin Costner, and it worked because I believed it.”)

Co-creators, Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan, said they were not planning on relying on guest appearances from Breaking Bad, “We’re trying to make something that stands on its own, that has entertainment value not just about seeing a series of old favourites or ‘remember when’ – not the series equivalent of a clip show.”

Though the series isn’t exactly a prequel, and won’t connect much with the parent show, Gilligan touches on the similarities, “You saw from Breaking Bad that we like nonlinear storytelling,” Gilligan said. “We like jumping around in time. I would definitely point you in the direction of anything that was possible storytelling-wise on Breaking Bad is possible on Better Call Saul.”
