Weekly updates

We in the ‘lucky country’ are (unsurprisingly) working pretty much the most unpaid overtime hours of any industrialised economy in the world. Couple that with the fact that our weekly working hours for full time employees are hefty and still increasing, it is no surprise that stress, coronary heart disease, and stroke statistics are at an alarming high. But not all countries are moving in this direction.

Sweden are continuing to set new precedent in maintaining work-life balance and family friendly policies by starting a move towards a 6 hour working day. The shorter working hours are hoped to increase staff morale and therefore improve productivity and focus amongst employees. Businesses that have already implemented the six-hour working days have been thrilled with the results. Linus Feldt, Stockholm-based app developer Filimundus CEO told Fast Company that productivity had stayed the same, while there were less conflicts because workers were happier and more rested.
