While this GXNXVS track is only 3.16 minutes long, I sure as hell spent the entire 3.16 minutes trying to figure out the pronunciation of the producer’s moniker. After much confusion I realised that it actually meant ‘Genius’ (which consequently left me feeling far from that) so I spent another 3.16 minutes actually listening to the track, then another 3.16 minutes listening to it once more just to make sure I liked it. So after 12.64 minutes multiplied by 26 days of repeating the same process I have decided that I do indeed love this track.

Who are you?
My name is GXNXVS, pronounced ‘Genius’.
Where are you from?
I was born in New Zealand but live on the Gold Coast.
What is unique about your local music scene?
There isn’t really much of a music scene here (in my world) other than a few artists and producers doing their thing, but I guess that’s the unique thing about it.
Describe your sound in three words. Go!
Simple. Easy. Effective.
What makes you unique as an artist?
I think not being restricted to a certain genre and being able to work with different artists has helped me to understand what works and what doesn’t when it comes to creating something.
Have you heard any new music lately? Got any recommendations?
Majid Jordan’s new EP A Place Like This is incredible. If you haven’t heard that, you’re missing out. Other than that I’ve just been listening to a lot of older tracks like Soul 4 Real’s ‘Candy Rain’ – that’s the jam.
Tell us a little about this release.
‘Easily’ is my first track that I’ve released on my own that hasn’t been a ‘remix’ or ‘production’ for another artist. I just wanted to create something that showed off a different side of my production. I like the fact that it’s a bit more up-tempo than my other work, but is still pretty laid back, you know?
What inspired the artwork for this track?
I was just at my friends place looking through some photos he got developed and it just happened that picture was in there. I’m pretty sure it was from a friend’s birthday a few months ago so I was pretty lucky it showed up. It really wasn’t planned at all. Shouts to the homies Matt and Rico for working their magic.
What else are you working on at the moment?
At the moment I’m working on making a lot of different tracks for artists and trying to come in from some other angles that you might not really expect. I’m really excited about some stuff I have coming out soon with CVIRO so keep an eye out for that.
