Welcome to Acclaim Magazine’s Heat of the Week. Here are our picks for the best new local and international releases — Don’t forget to follow our Spotify playlist too, it’s updated every Friday.

01. SL & Kenny Beats - Little Birds

South London rapper SL caught our attention a couple of years back with ‘Tropical‘. The balaclava-clad 18-year-old boasts one of the most endearing flows in the UK scene right now—his delivery is so straightforward that it almost sounds like he’s in class delivering a report.

In all seriousness, SL is a really exciting artist with a great knack for storytelling and loads of fun one-liners begging to be turned into Instagram captions. SL rarely ever relies on typical UK drill production to recite his road-rap tales and he proves it on his latest project Selhurst SE25 with 3 out of 4 of the tracks being produced by American hip-hop powerhouse Kenny Beats. Lead single ‘Little Bird‘ hits the spot perfectly and leaves us keen for more from this pairing.

02. Ty Dolla $ign - Ego Death ft. Kanye West, FKA Twigs & Skrillex

Ty Dolla $ign’s ‘Ego Death’ is a nightclub ready house bop with production from Skrillex that ditches the ‘scary monsters and nice sprites’ for smooth bass tones and an undeniable bounce. Ty’s soulful vocals open the track, before heading into the welcomed wit of Kanye West’s raps, and FKA Twigs’s thriving peaks of euphoric vocals. This particular lineup of artists on a single track is a surprising one, but goddamn, it works.

03. Tentendo - Thoughts ft. Vetta Borne

Melbourne producer Tentendo is back today with a new single ‘Thoughts’, featuring the syrupy vocals of fellow Melburnian artist Vetta Borne. The pair have created a low key loungeroom banger, with shimmering production reminiscent of 2016 Kaytranada. Tentendo’s snappy grooves paired with Vetta Borne’s lustrous and alluring vocal work make for a serious bop. Play it loud on repeat and go get some shit done!

04. Sahbabii - Tongue Demon

The Squidtastic Sahbabii is as eccentric as ever on ‘Tounge Demon’, the first taste of his forthcoming album BarNacles, which finally drops next week. Whipgotthesauce is on production here with medieval-like strings and a bellowing 808 bass, as SahBabii triplet-flows and croons through a series of odd yet entertaining bars. You have to hear this one for yourself.

05. Kanye West - Wash Us In The Blood ft. Travis Scott

Kanye is at maximum energy in his new single ‘Wash Us In The Blood’. It’s a gritty, bass-heavy banger with siren-like synths, courtesy of producers A.G, Boogz, Ronny J, Perth’s FnZ, and Ye himself, as well as mixing from Dr. Dre. The track calls to God for salvation in these tumultuous times, with Kanye passionately chant-rapping alongside a fire-fueled verse from Travis Scott. This song is the first single from Ye’s forthcoming album God’s Country, which we’re more than curious to hear.
