Ahead of the impending release of Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube has announced that the surviving members of the group will be teaming up for their first live performance in 26 years. MC Ren and DJ Yella are set to appear on stage with Cube to perform a number of the influential group’s hits for BET at the film’s L.A. premiere on June 27.

We imagine those two quite quickly responded to Cube’s Facebook event invite, but Dr. Dre is still sitting somewhere between a ‘Maybe’ and ‘Not Attending’. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Cube wouldn’t confirm if the Doc was making an appearance, but hinted at the possibility, saying “if you wish upon a star, you never know”. Does that mean dusting off the old Eazy-E hologram could be an option?

Cube added that there was more to be excited about than just the reunion: “we’re gonna be there with Snoop, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q. It’s just gonna be one of those ‘I wish I were there in L.A. nights'”. On top of that, he also mentioned there might be some new music from the group for the film’s soundtrack, saying “we’re definitely dibbling and dabbling”. The movie opens in cinemas here on August 27 and if you haven’t sufficiently hyped yourself for it by watching the trailer, do so here.
