It seems like every other person we know is packing up and setting off for new horizons overseas. Whether it be for extended travel periods or a fresh career start, the thrill of the new is exactly what the doctor ordered for many and if they’re lucky, taking that daunting first step out of your comfort zone (and hemisphere) can pay off handsomely. But it’s not always easy. Trying to get your life together while navigating a city you may have never visited before can sometimes make the transition that extra bit harder but, if you’re like us, you’ll probably know a few mates who have taken the leap before you and can offer a few words of advice.

Singer and producer Jordan Rakei swapped Brisbane’s balmy climate for the greyer skies of London, but has definitely been making the most of the thriving metropolis, with the impending release of his debut LP Cloak this week. Jordan has worked with some industry greats on the creation of his new project and if his recent single, ‘Blame It On The Youth’, is anything to go by, we’re in for a lot of quality neo-soul. Not only has Jordan mastered his sound but it looks like he’s ticked off all the essential hotspots one should know about their city. Take a look at Jordan’s favourite London town spots in the list below and make note for your next visit to the British capital.

Cloak is available for pre-order now and will be released on June 3.

01. Rhythm Section

This is the best club night in London by far. People go there to dance and a couple of VERY cool and friendly people run it. BOOGIE WOOGIE.

02. Vantra

My favourite place to get food in London. Amazing selection and quite cheap considering the quality!

03. Old Paradise Yard

A very cool collection of creative businesses packed into a cool yard space. It feels like you are in the countryside however the area resides in Waterloo Zone 1. I recorded a lot of my album at Old Paradise Audio.

04. Mau Mau Bar

Adam from Jazz:Refreshed holds an amazing night EVERY Thursday. Constantly grinding and bringing great quality music every week, you can go without knowing who’s on the bill and it’s usually very deep. Deep.

05. Ozone Coffee

A place I take all my Australian and New Zealand friends (we appreciate good coffee). I think it’s run by some Kiwis and Aussies, haha. Best coffee in London.
