Last Monday, Kanye West spoke at Cannes Lions Festival about the notion of creativity. From the idea of brands, to his opinion on Samsung to only working with “No. 1″‘s, nothing was off limits for Yeezus at the Cannes Lions Festival.

Ye discussed the influence Apple and Steve Jobs had, and continues to have on his own work:

“Steve Jobs, as everyone knows, was my biggest influence… After he passed, I made it my life’s mission to do what he did inside of that company.”

As well as contributing substance to some extremely intellectual discussions, Ye didn’t stray far from his ever-lingering, meme-followinginternet persona by also making a few seemingly off-topic comments. Some personal favourites:

“We worked on our wedding photo for four days until it was good enough for Instagram”

“Trends come and go, but cool is forever”

“I’ve been brought up in this way—I think I can’t work with anyone that isn’t number one: Jay Z, Kim, Obama, Apple is one, Samsung isn’t”

Kanye voiced his opinion and obsession with being, and associating with, “No. 1”:

“Because of how my parents raised me, I have to work with the No. 1. I can’t work with anyone but Jay Z, because he’s No. 1. I can’t be with any girl but Kim, because that’s the girl whose pictures I look at the most and get turned on by. I’m not going to represent any company but Louis Vuitton, because that’s No. 1.”

Everyone’s favourite Momager, Kris Jenner, was in attendance supporting her new son-in-law, ‘gramming a photo of him on stage with the hashtag #winning. More than 12 500 people are expected to travel to Cannes this week and participate in the conference, which runs from June 16-21.
